In 2011, the first year after the integration of Tainan City and Tainan County, Tainan City specially broadened the scope of the past literature award held by Tainan County and Tainan City to hold the first “Tainan Literature Award”, which was conducted on a yearly basis. Because Tainan is an important city for Taiwanese literature, the “Tainan Literature Award” specially sets Taiwanese literature as the primary category for submissions to cultivate and discover the talents of Taiwanese literature. The diversified categories for the submissions to the Tainan Literature Award consist of Taiwanese poetry, Taiwanese essays, Taiwanese short stories, modern Mandarin poetry, Mandarin essays, Mandarin short stories, classical poetry, children's literature, reportage, scripts, young adult new poetry, young adult essays, and light literature for Tainan. Several categories are selected for submissions each year. The top award is NT$100,000 and the total amount of awards reaches over NT$1,300,000.
