This event can be seen throughout these three districts during the farming slack season.

In Sinying, Yanshuei, and Syuejia, this kind of unique pigeon races is called by different names. Every year, from February to April, we see pigeons carrying a wooden whistle flying in the sky above these three districts. The wooden whistle’s buzz tells people that the competition has begun. This tradition has always been one of the most important events during the slack season in farming villages on the northern area of Zeng Wun River in Tainan. When setting off pigeons, weather conditions will be considered; the race will be postponed if it rains. The procedures include elimination of unsuitable birds, short-distance and long-distance training, and the finals.

To make this signature traditional folk event more organized, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Tainan City Government helps to integrate all the timetables of the dual meet in these three districts. In addition, arrangements are also made for campus promotion education. So not only can students learn about this interesting cultural event, its wonderful intangible heritage can also be passed on to future generations.
