The establishment of the “International Center for Tainan Area Humanities and Social Sciences Research” is due to the care and enthusiasm for the regional society, culture, and historical research of Tainan County from academia. Thanks to the French anthropologist Fiorella Allio who studied the religious culture of Tainan for a long time, the Center was established by a group of scholars from different academic fields upholding the expectation and ideal for Tainan area research with the support from Su Huan-Chih, the magistrate of Tainan County, Tainan Culture Foundation, and the employees of the County Cultural Affairs Bureau, as well as the caring and assistance of many cultural and historical workers in Tainan County.

The purpose of establishing the Center is to advocate and promote the research of humanities in Tainan. With the establishment and operation of the Center, we expect to collectively advance the academic interaction and cooperation of Tainan area research at home and abroad via integrating domestic and foreign experts. Also, by various facilities and services of the Center, we provide convenience and assistance to the experts coming to Tainan for research. On the other hand, we hope to establish an interaction and cooperation platform for academia and the local culture and history workers in Tainan area to cultivate a new generation of talents for local research.

Located in Soulangh Cultural Park, the Center currently aims at providing academic groups with a location for research, extensively collecting Tainan area literature, arranging youth organizations for Tainan area research, and attracting students to participate in Tainan area research. Looking into the future, the Center will prepare to hold academic conferences, arrange forums related to the research plan of the Center, and publish or assist with publishing book series relevant to Tainan area research.
