抹香鯨大寶於2015年10月15日被發現擱淺於東石漁港出海口約兩浬遠的淺海，消息傳出後，成功大學鯨豚研究中心及嘉義救難協會人員立刻前往救援，助其順利往西南外海漂游，將牠送回大海，10月18日又被發現擱淺死亡於八掌溪口。經解剖，證實是因為誤食漁網與垃圾袋等人工製品導致其無法進食，也可以說是海洋污染害死了牠。過去也曾有鯨豚擱淺在臺灣的西南海岸，但近年來多數都在其胃部發現人工垃圾。人類將自已與自然隔絕之後，自私自利加上大量地不當使用科技，生態浩劫已是現在進行式，今日海洋生物的困境，將是明日人類的寫照。因此，「抹香鯨的死亡與擱淺」由虛擬的「小純用功現代考古隊」以一比一木刻夾板的方式來反應此一環境事件。
The sperm whale Dabao was found stranded in shallow waters about two miles away from the mouth of Dongshi Fishing Harbor on October 15, 2015. Immediately after the news broke, rescue crews from the Cetacean Research Center of National Cheng Kung University and the Chiayi Rescue Association went to help the stranded whale move south-westward back to deeper waters. On October 18, it was found dead, stranded at the mouth of Bazhang River. Through an autopsy, it was confirmed that the whale had starved to death after eating man-made products such as fishing nets and plastic bags. In other words, it was killed by marine pollution. Although whales and dolphins also became stranded on the southwest coast of Taiwan in the past, in recent years most have been found to have man-made waste in their stomachs. Ever since human beings have isolated ourselves from nature, our selfishness and widespread misuse of technology have resulted in an ongoing ecological catastrophe. The predicament that marine life encounters today is premonitory of what human beings will face in the future. The Death and Stranding of Sperm Whales was created by “Chun-Yung’s Fake Excavation Team” using cut plywood to the size of a whale as a response to the environmental tragedy.
